Hell yeah! Curious how Effigear compares to a Pinion, but either way a gearbox enduro bike is now a thing I didn't know I needed.

The Effigear reviews sound pretty good! Would love to demo one. I was definitely worried about having to relearn how to shift with a gearbox, but it took me one lap, and now jumping between my bikes I only see the shortcomings on the derailleur side haha.


I think a lot of people underestimate the beauty of not having to do that odd pedal stroke while chain is moving from one cog to another. It feels natural until you try an instant shift.

I like that the Effigear doesn't need a battery. While the Smart.Shift works great, it feels a little exposed and I may need to remember to charge it once in a few months. Wonder if it'd be possible to modify an XT or Saint shifter and have the "Multi-release" feature work with Effigear, that might be my dream drivetrain.

I have found the same. After half a dozen rides on the gearbox shifting feels more natural now to me than the derailleur bikes I have. Dumping gears without pedalling is a great positive. The all mechanical aspect was a big selling point for me. I am over charging AXS batteries and want simplicity less things to potentially end my rides. Apparently the smartshift battery needs charging once per year. That would be the holy grail that adaption

If it's any useful, I'm at 80% battery after a month of not too much riding, perhaps 10 days. Also been commuting about a bit on my DH bike because it's too nice to ride haha. First 3 days at the park took it down to 98%. There is a very good chance a full battery charge will have a longer lifespan than my last few derailleurs on a DH bike (while the XT somehow keeps going?) so I might just accept the fact I have a battery now. Until I lose the charger or something, spares may be bit hard to find. 
Does the Effigear use a modified shifter, or is it using original internals? I understand that you need to replace the inner "ratchet" mechanism?
