Sometime after qualifying earlier in the day, the semi-finals at the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill in Les Gets were held to determine the racers who will compete in tomorrow's finals. 17 Elite Women vied for 10 finals spots and 60 Elite Men were narrowed down to 30 for race day.
The Elite Women's Top 5 was separated by just 2 seconds with Vali Holl taking going fastest by 1.2 over Myriam Nicole in 2nd. Tahnee Seagrave was right in there just a few tenths behind Myriam with Monika Hrastnik riding her Val di Sole momentum into 4th. Mille Johnset rounds out the Top 5 and has a solid price-to-point fantasy value this week at $90k! Last year's winner, Marine Cabirou, was only 4 seconds off but that put her down in 7th place. Nina Hoffmann and #USDH Anna Newkirk have protected status and are in finals despite lackluster performances in semis.
USA makes sure the French riders have to earn it on race day as Dak goes fastest in semis once again. He was 1.3 seconds up over Amaury Pierron in 2nd with Loic Bruni in 3rd. Luca Shaw puts more stars and bars in the Top 5 with a 4th and Remy Thirion lands 5th showing all the young bucks that he's a bargain for fantasy this week at only $60k! Oisin O'Callaghan is protected and can run finals despite last place in semis. #USDH riders Ryan Pinkerton slots in at 11th and Austin Dooley makes the show in 27th. It was a rough day for Dylan Maples and Richie Rude who were both outside the Top 30. Greg Minnaar eeks his way into finals in 30th.
The weather report for tomorrow's race is looking pretty dismal with rain scheduled before and/or during competition times. These are the French Alps after all, so maybe we'll get lucky with a dry, even competition.
