Women freeride mountain bikers broke new ground today as they competed in their first-ever Red Bull Rampage. 23 years have passed since the first Rampage for men, and the female riders who showed up to the Utah desert this afternoon put on a display of top-notch skill, bravery, style and creativity. A week of digging lines and fine-tuning drops and jumps paid off with a heart-pounding show. Watch the replay below or cruise down further for scores if you don't mind a spoiler. Results aside, a big HECK YES to the competitors, their dig crews and to everyone behind making this day come to fruition.

Seven out of the original eight women competed today, as Cami Nogueria had to bow out after a crash on her 51-foot drop in practice earlier. The first runs were taken during near perfect weather with light winds and temperatures in the low 80s. The first rider down the mountain was Robin Goomes who dropped in with focus, precision and two backflips in between some big drops. Her effort was celebrated throughout the venue and the judges awared her with 85 points. Ultimately, Goomes could not be conquered despite some strong attempts from the other athletes and she takes home the title of first-ever women's Rampage winner.
2nd place went to a rider who was on the alternate list. Georgia Castle was summoned up to the competitor list after Hannah Bergmann stepped down due to an injured achilles heal. Georgia made every moment count with her dig crew and her single run down the mountain with technical steeps, big drops and a sui off the last trick jump.
The last member of the podium was a rider who may be the biggest reason women are in Rampage in the first place. Casey Brown has been at the forefront of the women's freeride movement for years. Today she stomped a clean run down her track that dropped in on the rider's left side of the mountain. Connecting the steep start with the technical "Laundry Chute" rock roll feature, Brown greased her line with precision earning 3rd place. today.
All the women had great runs with only Chelsea Kimball having a mishap in run 1. With Goomes holding a dominating score and wind making a second run sketchy, all riders but Chelsea decided to forego run 2. Chelsea was left at the top of the course facing the dilemma of risking another run with breezes increasing. A window opened and she dropped in, aiming for the largest drop on course, which she'd stomped in run 1 after her small crash in a connecting section. A second run wouldn't help her as she came off the bike in the same place as run 1.
We'll say it again, but congratulations to all the women on the mountain and everyone who helped put this event together. It's been a long time coming and the show today was a huge success!
